Craft Your Own Signature Tea Blend with McHugh Tea Room
There’s something truly special about a cup of tea tailored to your personal taste. Whether you prefer floral, fruity, earthy, or spicy notes, crafting your own blend is a rewarding experience that allows you to create the perfect cup for any mood or occasion. At McHugh Tea Room, we offer a variety of high-quality teas that can be mixed and matched to craft your very own signature blend. Here’s how you can get started!
Step 1: Choose Your Base
Your base tea sets the foundation for your blend. Whether you prefer the delicate notes of white tea, the freshness of green tea, the richness of black tea, or the depth of herbal tisanes, selecting the right base is key.
White Tea: Try Silver Needles for a light and floral base or White Mango Pear for a subtly sweet start.
Green Tea: Dragon’s Well is a classic, nutty green tea, while Jasmine Green offers a delicate floral touch.
Black Tea: Irish Breakfast is strong and malty, perfect for a bold morning blend, while Cream Earl Grey adds a creamy citrus twist.
Oolong Tea: Apricot Oolong is a fruity and floral option, whereas Iron Goddess of Mercy has a smooth, rich profile.
Herbal/Tisanes: Hibiscus Blossom is tart and vitamin-rich, while Peach Rooibos provides natural sweetness.
Step 2: Add a Flavor Boost
Now, enhance your tea with additional flavors. Consider pairing complementary notes to elevate your blend.
Floral: Add dried French Rose, Lavender Rose, or Chamomile & Lavender for an aromatic and calming effect.
Fruity: Try Wild Raspberry Rose, Mango Strawberry Heaven, or Cranberry Apple for a juicy burst.
Spicy/Warm: Incorporate Masala Chai, Vanilla Mint Chai, or Turmeric Spice Chai for a bold, warming sip.
Nutty/Dessert-like: Hazelnut Cookie, Pecan Pie Rooibos, or Strawberry Kisses add a rich and indulgent taste.
Step 3: Balance and Experiment
Blending tea is all about balance. Start with a 3:1 ratio—three parts base tea to one part flavor addition—and adjust from there. If you want more complexity, consider mixing multiple elements together.
For example:
Relaxation Blend: Jasmine Green + Lavender Rose + Chamomile & Lavender
Fruit Punch Blend: Wild Raspberry Rose + Peach Rooibos + Hibiscus Blossom
Cozy Dessert Blend: Cream Earl Grey + Hazelnut Cookie + Vanilla Matcha
Step 4: Brew and Enjoy
Once you’ve created your perfect blend, it’s time to steep and savor! Be mindful of steeping times and temperatures for your base tea to ensure the best flavor.
White Tea: 175°F, 2-3 minutes
Green Tea: 175-185°F, 2-3 minutes
Black Tea: 200-212°F, 3-5 minutes
Oolong Tea: 190-200°F, 3-5 minutes
Herbal/Tisanes: 212°F, 5-7 minutes
